Blogging, or a lack thereof

Could I write any less?  I’m starting to think only if I didn’t have internet access permanently, could I write less in this blog.  I think blogging is like losing weight with me, I just have to get off my ass and go out for a walk every day.  So, I guess in the coming days, we’ll see if I get off my ass and go for a walk, in a literary sense.

Double Hernia Surgery

Well, last Wednesday, April 16, 2008, I finally had my double hernia surgery. Everything went well other than instead of one to one and half hours, the surgery took almost 4 hours. The good part is I haven’t had any pain, just soreness.

An interesting part was I just had a spinal anesthesia, which I really recommend. I was mostly aware of everything, but ended up sleeping for the first hour and a half. I woke myself up several times snoring, which only cracked me up. After the first hour and a half, I was awake for the next 30 minutes or so as the doctor worked on the right side. Again, I couldn’t feel a thing, so I had no problems continuing, but the anesthesiologist and the doctor were discussing that the spinal was going to start wearing off. The anesthesiologist was saying since I wasn’t showing any signs of awareness or pain, we’d continue until he started to see movement from me. At about the two hour mark, the doctor switched to the left side, and the spinal had worn off enough that I could feel everything that was going on, but zero pain, absolutely none. I let the doctor work about 15 minutes or so until the feeling of the suction on my internal tissues annoyed me. I raised my hand and said, “excuse me” to which both the doctors startled and I followed up my interruption with, “I’m in zero pain, but I can feel everything you’re doing, what should we do?” The anesthesiologist said, “We’ll have to go to a general anesthesia.” I said, “ok” and I’m not even sure if I remember finishing saying “ok”, but I was out until about 30 minutes after the surgery finished up. About 2 hours after surgery, the fog of the anesthesia cleared and I was good

Changing of the seasons

The usual signs of fall are changing of the forest colors from the many hues of green to the festival red, yellow, blue (blue?? just checking for your attention), tan and other forest “tones.” However, it’s just the middle of September and if the fall colors haven’t peaked yet, it’s going to happen in the next 3-5 days.

I’m hoping it’s just due to the summer lack of rain, and we’ll have a nice long fall season. On the other hand, it could be because snow is coming. Either way, I can’t pull a lever for “long, nice fall” or push a stop button for “Snow in September”

Start of the rambling

What’s the quote? A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Of course, much like anything in my life, I assumed I was using the right quote. It always seems like there’s the popular thing, popular knowledge and there’s what is correct and what is right. What’s the right way to go?
